The FGUA once again participated in the Annual Wings Over Water Festival held January 27th, 2024, at the Harns Marsh in Lehigh Acres.

The annual festival celebrates Southwest Florida’s environment and encourages the public to discover the beauty of southwest Florida’s water, land and wildlife.

The festival includes an array of educational programs on local waterways and wildlife and there is an abundance of wildlife at Harns Marsh to explore. The 578-acre farmland has been transformed into an active stormwater facility, to filter water and reduce flooding to the Orange River. The water control structures added to the marsh have helped create a lush habitat for snail kites, limpkin and more than 160 species of animals. Harns Marsh is located in the eastern portion of Lee County located off of Sunshine Boulevard in Lehigh Acres.

Activities included Touch a Truck Alley with many public sector organizations providing he opportunity of kids to explore from Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue, to emergency response vehicles, garbage trucks, airboats and heavy equipment. The is a Rubber Duck Race, an Inaugural Kids Fishing Derby, face painting for the kiddos and several food trucks! The Lee County Sheriff Ice Cream Response Team provides free ice cream cones and the Garden Club of Lehigh Acres showcased native plants which were available for purchase.

The Education Tent showcased several vendor tables. The FGUA table highlights the “Water Cycle” with water cycle bracelets, coloring books, rain gauges, toothbrushes and brochures on water conservation tips. A perfect day and lots of fun!
